Why should you choose Dr. Galan for your Myopia Management Treatment?
Dr. Galan is widely recognized in Nassau County as the local authority on controlling the progression of myopia. Using the latest treatment and technologies, called Orthokeratology, Dr. Galan has been ensuring clearer future vision for myopia patients.
What is Myopia?
Myopia or as it is commonly known, “shortsighted” or “nearsighted” is a condition that develops and continues to worsen during school years. Not that long ago, this condition was addressed only with corrective lenses. However, there are long term risks associated with Myopia, particularly if it began early and progresses quickly. These risks include serious eye diseases and conditions including glaucoma, macular degeneration, and even retinal detachment.
Ortho K Treatment for Myopia
Treatments such as “ortho-k” ― orthokeratology, also known as GVSS contacts ― is an effective and safe way to simultaneously correct vision problems while slowing down and even halting the progression of myopia during the crucial child and teen years.

Myopia Management Q&A with Dr. Galan
The most popular and widely practiced method of treatment is Orthokeratology (also known as Corneal Reshaping Therapy or CRT as well as GVSS ― Gentle Vision Shaping Systems).
Orthok for myopia management works by gently reshaping the cornea at night (like braces), so your child doesn't even need to wear glasses or contacts during the day. In addition to its success at reducing your childs nearsightedness, this has the added benefit of increasing self-esteem, improving peripheral vision, and reducing the chances of sports related injuries.
The main reason why all children should begin a myopia management program as soon as they show signs of myopia is the long term danger attributed to mild-high myopia. The more the myopia progresses the greater the danger to children to lose vision later in life. In addition to this medical recommendation, there are other side benefits such as increased self esteem and improved vision.
