Insertion & Removal of Contact Lenses

Follow these steps for safe and comfortable scleral lens application: 

1. Wash & Dry Your Hands: Use mild, non-moisturizing soap. Dry your hands with a clean, lint-free towel to avoid debris on the lens. 
2. Inspect Your Eyes & Lenses: Look for redness, discharge, or discomfort. Examine your lens under light to check for chips or deposits. 
3. Fill with Saline: Fill the bowl of the lens with preservative-free saline solution before inserting. 
4. Insert the Lens Using Your Fingers or a Plunger 

• Use the tripod method (three fingers) or a suction inserter tool. 
• Hold your eyelids open while leaning over a flat mirror. 
• Look down and gently place the lens in your eye. Once you feel the saline contact your eye, release the lens. 

     5. Check for Air Bubbles: If you feel discomfort, you may have trapped air. Remove and reinsert the lens to avoid vision distortion. 

There are two methods for safe removal: 

With a Plunger 

• Wet the tip with saline. 
• Look straight ahead and attach the plunger to the bottom third of the lens. 
• Gently pull up and outward to remove. 

With Fingers 

• Use two fingers to gently pinch the lens and break the seal. 
• Be prepared to catch the lens as it releases from the eye. 

Note: Removal gets easier with practice. 

Proper care keeps your eyes healthy and your lenses clear: 

• After Removal: Rub each lens with a few drops of recommended cleaning solution in your palm. Rinse thoroughly with saline. 
• Disinfect Overnight: Store lenses in fresh disinfecting solution recommended by your optometrist. Never reuse old solution. 
• Clean the Case: Rinse with disinfecting solution, wipe with a tissue, and store upside down with caps off. 

Always use solutions approved by your eye doctor. Not all products are suitable for scleral lenses and could damage them or irritate your eyes.
